Advocating For Autism Insurance Bill - Sen. Eric Schmitt,
father of a son with autism, speaks out

Don Corrigan, Columnist - Webster-Kirkwood Times September 18, 2009 - It's not exactly a political or town hall rally, but there will be plenty of fervor this Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at a special "Show-Me Coverage Autism Insurance Rally" at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon, Mo. A special family that will be there in force is Glendale's Eric and Jaime Schmitt and their youngsters. For state Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Glendale, this rally involves a personal cause, a family cause and a political cause.

SB 157 - This act codified the five regional Autism projects currently serving persons with Autism and their families through the Division of Developmental Disabilities within the Department of Mental Health. The Central, East, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest Missouri Autism Projects may provide certain services, including assessment, advocacy training, communication and language therapy, crisis intervention, life skills, and respite care. The list of services that may be provided are specified in the act. The bill was signed into law by the governor in July of 2009.

First autism committee meeting brings emotional testimony
JEFFERSON CITY — Emotional testimony from witnesses and legislators marked the first meeting of a state House of Representatives committee that seeks to examine autism insurance policy. The Interim Committee on Autism Spectrum Disorders convened Tuesday to gather information about the disorder.
